David Corr makes us proud!

Congratulations go to David Corr, a regular skier at Pendle, who has just returned back from his first ever Special Olympics event held in Pila, Italy. David was one of the youngest, of the 73 competitors, taking part in the event for the first time. He even met up with Graham Bell from Ski Sunday, a Special Olympics GB Ambassador, who attended to inspire the athletes taking part.

The event saw competitors from throughout the UK taking part to win medals and the chance to represent Great Britain at Special Olympics World Winter Games in Pyeong Chang, South Korea. David competed in the advance catergories in the down hill and giant slalom, achieving third place podium positions despite skiing against some skiers almost three times his age.

In his favourite event of slalom David put in a fantastic performance, although was he carrying so much speed and unfortunately missed the final gate, so his time did not count. Nevertheless, he has made us all very proud and given us a chance of another Olympian in our club.

You can read further details about the event at Snowsport England and The Lancashire Evening Post.

New Coaches Award

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

A new first for the Pendle Race Squad, sees the introduction of a Coaches Award for 2012.

The award will be given on a monthly basis for the developing skiers in the Tuesday night 6.00 – 7.15 race training session.

It is made by the coaches to recognise the effort put in at the training sessions by individual skiers during the month, with names added to the shield over the year.

The holder for the month can give the award pride of place at home, and or take it in to school, with it to be returned at the end of the month to allow it to be awarded again.

At the end of the year it will be displayed in the club house.

For January 2012 it has been presented to Daniel Culshaw – well done Daniel, look out for next month as it could be you!
